Microsoft has announced that the rollout of the Windows 11 version 24H2, also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, is now back on track after briefly pausing it to address compatibility issues with select Ubisoft games.
Last month, Microsoft temporarily halted the distribution of the 24H2 update for systems running certain Ubisoft titles, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Users reported experiencing crashes, black screens, freezing, and performance problems when trying to play these games after updating to the new OS version.
Microsoft worked diligently with Ubisoft to investigate and resolve these compatibility problems. They have now deployed the necessary fixes, and the 24H2 update is once again available for all users, including those with systems running the affected Ubisoft games.
Users who previously encountered issues with these titles should now be able to update to Windows 11 24H2 without experiencing the crashes and performance problems that plagued the initial rollout. Ubisoft has also released patches for their games to ensure smooth operation on the latest Windows version.
This compatibility problem with Ubisoft games was one of several that Microsoft had to contend with during the 24H2 rollout. Last month, the update also caused issues with competitive multiplayer games that rely on Epic’s Easy Anti-Cheat software, as well as certain Western Digital SSDs. However, Microsoft has now resolved these problems as well.
With these compatibility issues addressed, Microsoft is moving forward with offering the Windows 11 24H2 update to an expanded range of eligible devices running Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. Users can check if the update is available for their system by navigating to Settings > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates. If their device is ready, they will see the option to Download and install.
